Some venues don’t need to be made beautiful, they already are. Château de la Bourdaisière, set in the heart of the Loire Valley in Montlouis-sur-Loire, is one of them. A former royal residence nestled within a ten-hectare park, it combines the grandeur of Renaissance architecture with the warmth of a living, breathing estate. A setting that, from the very first hours of the morning, invites extraordinary photographs.

I have been photographing weddings across Touraine since 2009. La Bourdaisière comes up regularly in the projects couples bring to me. As a wedding photographer at Château de la Bourdaisière, I understand why.

 

What makes this venue exceptional for photography

 

Château de la Bourdaisière offers something few venues can claim: a genuine diversity of settings within a single estate. The Renaissance façade in white tuffeau stone, luminous the moment sunlight touches it. The park with its centuries-old trees, its shifting plays of light and shadow that I never tire of chasing. And the famous tomato garden, one of the finest in France, which creates a living, colourful, utterly unexpected backdrop for a wedding.

Then there is the light. Montlouis-sur-Loire sits a few kilometres from Tours, on the south bank of the Loire, in a corridor where the golden late-afternoon light lingers longer than elsewhere. For a wedding photographer, that is a gift.

 

My approach at this venue

 

I work in natural reportage style. I don’t direct couples into stiff poses, I accompany them, observe them, let them live their day while I search for the true moments. A glance exchanged beneath the château’s stone vaults. Laughter breaking out in the tomato garden. A quiet embrace at the foot of a centuries-old tree.

These are the images you will still be looking at twenty years from now.

For couple portraits, I know the angles and the hours that make La Bourdaisière sing. The late-day light on the façade is breathtaking, I always aim for it if the day’s schedule allows.
