Château de Villandry
Château de Villandry
Wedding Photographer at Château de Villandry
Ask any photographer in the region which venue excites them most, Villandry comes up again and again. Its formal French gardens, listed among the finest in Europe, are not simply beautiful to the eye. They are a succession of perspectives, volumes and ever-changing colours that offer, with every season and almost every hour of the day, a different backdrop.
As a wedding photographer at Château de Villandry since 2009, I know this place intimately. And I never tire of it.
The gardens as a natural setting
What makes Villandry unique for a wedding reportage is the sheer richness of its spaces. The ornamental gardens with their sculpted box hedges. The terraces overlooking the Cher valley. The ponds that mirror the sky. The kitchen garden with its unexpected colours. One could spend an entire day photographing on this estate without ever running out of inspiration.
For couple portraits, I love working along the garden’s natural perspective lines, a couple at the end of an alley, backlit, with the château as a soft backdrop. Or in the love garden in late afternoon, when the light turns gold and shadows lengthen along the hedgerows.
Every season has its character
Spring at Villandry is explosive: tulips, irises, roses, the ornamental garden at its colourful peak. Summer brings long evenings and warm light that lingers until 9pm. Autumn may be the most beautiful season for photography: rust and gold tones flood the beds, the light is low and gentle. Winter reveals a château and gardens almost entirely to yourself, images of rare intimacy.
There is no wrong season at Villandry. There is your season.
My approach
Natural reportage, no artificial staging. At Villandry, I let the gardens do much of the heavy lifting. My role is to be in the right place at the right moment, to anticipate the instant, find the angle that makes the setting serve the emotion rather than overwhelm it.
The most successful portraits here are not the ones where couples pose in front of the château. They are the ones where they simply walk through it, absorbed in each other, momentarily forgetting the camera.
What I offer
Based in Tours, 20 minutes from Villandryr-Indre, is one of them. Nestled in the Indre valley, a few kilometres south of Tours, this 18th-century estate combines the understated elegance of deepest Touraine with a natural setting of rare gentleness. Far from the circuit of classified monuments and their constraints, it offers couples something infinitely precious: the freedom to live their day without the pressure of mass tourism.

As a wedding photographer at Château de Vaugrignon, I have come to understand what makes this place so well-suited to the couples who choose it.
A domain made for wedding photography
Château de Vaugrignon brings together what few venues can claim: a tuffeau stone façade that catches the light in an almost unreal way in the late afternoon, a wooded park offering intimate corners away from guests’ sightlines, and the banks of the Indre within easy walking distance.
For a wedding photographer, the light of the Indre valley is a particular gift. The river creates a slight atmospheric moisture that diffuses sunlight and eliminates harsh shadows. The result: couple portraits with the characteristic softness of photographs one keeps for a long time.
The park deserves special attention. The shaded alleys, the old moss-covered walls, the leafy perspectives compose natural frames that I identify as soon as I arrive on site. Visiting the venue ahead of the wedding day is part of how I work: on the day itself, I know exactly where to be at each hour.
What I love about weddings at Vaugrignon
Couples who choose Vaugrignon often share a certain relationship with authenticity. They are not looking for the château that impresses on sight, but the one that resembles them. That intention comes through in the photographs: weddings at Vaugrignon produce warm, lively reportages where emotions are not hidden behind the grandeur of the setting.
I work in natural reportage style. No directed poses, no “stand here and smile”. I follow the movement of the day, look for the genuine moments, photograph people as they are when they have forgotten the camera. It is in those moments, often, that the best images arrive.
